With the price of an admission ticket for a movie today exceeding the minimum wage, it is only natural for us to expect to get our monies worth. But, considering all the opportunities out there for escapism it is still considered cheep entertainment. It has always been my philosophy that if a motion picture is under two hours in length it will have a thirty percent chance of doing well at the box office. While on the other hand, if it has a running time of two hours or more it usually has a seventy percent chance of doing well. The majority of people that do movies regularly (2 or more times a month) like a two hour picture, and yes it’s true, some moving pictures can be a pain in the area to where we sit. This being true, it has never been a problem when the entertainment is great!
This forum is set-up for the movie connoisseur; I will be giving an expert opinion on film and expressing our feelings on an industry that has become an American standard.

To date, many of us have exhausted our movie opportunities. This is giving the industry a faults sense of success. When placing bad films against other bad films all we end up with is the best bad film of the week. And if you notice, they are all under two hours.

The industry is always changing, but for us it has always been about the story. When the entertainment is great with a fantastic beginning, a wonderful middle, and a controversial conclusion that everyone has much to talk about we feel satisfied. A good example is James Cameron. Cameron always delivers a two hour movie, thus giving the buying public its monies worth. You may not like the movies he creates, but your back-end won’t hurt…
Hollywood has also exhausted its opportunities. This is apparent by the re-make. The Day The Earth Stood Still, the re-make of which was originally directed in 1951 by Robert Wise was lost in special effects. Michael Rennie played Klaatu first, an emissary from space who visits Earth with a robot companion. Keanu Reeves played this modern version, directed by Scott Derrickson. Reeves’ part was wonderful, but not enough to help a story-line that should have been more fulfilling and not so dependent on modern effects/104min.
